Lynden, Washington is home to the states largest Dutch community, which proudly displays its heritage with Dutch-theme shops and windmills. Lynden, Washington is one of the more unique tourist destinations in the Pacific Northwest. Lynden is located about 20 miles north of Bellingham, Washington on the Guide Meridian Road. Guide Meridian is a major thoroughfare of traffic traveling between Bellingham - Interstate 5 and Aldergrove British Columbia.

Lynden is home to a unique mix of tourist attractions and celebrations including the annual Holland Days in May. The Northwest Washington Fair that attracts over 200,000 visitors during the third week of August every year.

Largely a dairy and agricultural community, Lynden also focuses on its farming roots with an International Plowing Match, a harvest festival, a raspberry festival, and the Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association Threshing Bee. Many farms surround Lynden with its unique character. One of the more prominent farms is Darigold. Darigold is one of the largest Dairy producers in the state and is rumored to provide a significant amount if not all the milk to the premier northwest based specialty coffee chain, Starbucks.

Lynden is centrally located in Whatcom County with easy access to most of the surrounding communities and tourist attractions. Bellingham is just 20 minutes south of Lynden. Birch Bay and Blaine are approximately 15 miles west. Sumas is about 20 minutes away along the Badger Road. Everson is about 15 minutes away. Mount Baker is approximately 45 minutes away.

Lynden is among the cleanest around, a place where residents take pride in their homes and yards.

Open House at New City Hall - June 6

Lynden’s new City Hall is open for business at 300 4th St. The new building is about three times the size of the old City Hall, on Front St. that was 80 years old. The new City Hall will including the Planning Department, which used to be in a separate building because there wasn’t room for it in the old City Hall. After leaving King County and moving to Lynden (as a result of a round of golf at Homestead), I am learning the seasons according to Mother Nature.  I now know when baby ducks will start their perilous journey across the 7th fairway heading for local residence’s bird-feeders.  I’ve learned that cows “drop” their tiny calves in the fields year round and somehow these little creatures usually survive.  I have come to realize, sadly that some of the locals treat their dogs... [Read more]

In the 10+ yrs I have lived in Lynden there have been some major changes to this conservative albeit quaint little city. You can now buy a drink in a restaurant on Sunday. You can now buy wine in the grocery stores on Sunday. I know that may not be startling in most places but it is a major change here in Lynden.
