Lynden’s Raspberry Festival, the third weekend in July, celebrates the local raspberry harvest. Sixty-five percent of the red raspberries in the United States are grown locally.

Above, beginning at Lynden’s signature windmill hotel and shopping center, Front Street, Lynden’s main street is blocked off for a citywide sidewalk sale and block party.

Along with music, bargains, rides through town in a wagon drawn by Budwieser-style draft horses, crafts for kids, and food, there’s a two-day-long 3-on-3 hoop jam as various locations along the street. Shown at left, hoop jammers take practice shots with two balls in the air at once.

Below, ice cream topped with raspberries is served up at bargain rates to eager visitors. Just-picked fresh berries from local growers are also available to buy and take home.

These photos were taken at the July 18-19, 2003 Lynden Raspberry Festival.
