Lynden Real Estate

City slicker likes life in the country, most of the time.

After leaving King County and moving to Lynden (as a result of a round of golf at Homestead), I am learning the seasons according to Mother Nature.  I now know when baby ducks will start their perilous journey across the 7th fairway heading for local residence’s bird-feeders.  I’ve learned that cows “drop” their tiny calves in the fields year round and somehow these little creatures usually survive.  I have come to realize, sadly that some of the locals treat their dogs like property and let them ride, unrestrained and with no thought to the animals safey, in the back of the ever present pick-up trucks.  I know it is a different culture in this farm country.  I’m learning.

The times, they are a changing

In the 10+ yrs I have lived in Lynden there have been some major changes to this conservative albeit quaint little city.

You can now buy a drink in a restaurant on Sunday. You can now buy wine in the grocery stores on Sunday. I know that may not be startling in most places but it is a major change here in Lynden. I was talking to a neighbor the other day and she said the feel of Lynden is reminiscent of the 1950′s and I think she hit on something. For the most part, Lynden is a gentle little place, scenically beautiful and the main street is just what you would expect. Towering Pinoak trees, well kept gardens and houses that evoke the style of the 40′s and 50′s. After 10+ yrs., I’m starting to like this place.
